The trip to the Machalilla National Park is a fantastic journey to the only National Park located directly at the coast, characterized by a particular tropical flora and fauna. The entry includes the Isla de la Plata, where a large number of different animal species, similar to those in the Galapagos Islands, coexist.
The Machalilla National Park is in the south of the Manabi Province, at the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It has an extension of 55095 hectares and is divided in three parts; in a marine, a continental and an island part. The average temperature lies by 24°c. Thanks to the park’s geographical location it has two seasons; sun, rain and heat in the months from December to May and the dry, cloudy and drizzling rain season from June to September.
The Machalilla National Park is the only dry tropical forest in the world. Every year the hump-back whales return to the coasts of Ecuador after traveling for more than 7000km coming from Antarctica. The marine area of the Machililla National Park is the important place for their reproduction.
